The first ever Island Finance Forum is set to inspire and engage attendees globally as leading financial experts come together to share and exchange information and solutions for sustainable development across island communities. This free and fully virtual event takes place 12-16 April 2021.
The Island Finance Forum will explore the role of sustainable and inclusive financial structures in islands and SIDS.
Island Finance Forum 2021
Open to the public and featuring opportunities for Q&A sessions with panelists, the IFF illustrates how a fair and sustainable economic recovery can start from local grassroots programmes with local support and knowledge. Events like this, which help bridge the gap between sustainable
development practitioners and stakeholders, and help to open access to expert knowledge and financial opportunities available to them, are an important step towards creating a strong future for island communities. While the past year has been difficult for many, it has created a new pathway towards building a sustainable economic model.
Sponsors for the inaugural event include:
Invest Barbados, NCB Capital Markets Ltd., Mana Pacific,
Nathan Associates, Camco Clean Energy and the Caribbean Biodiversity Fund.

One of the partners is the national investment promotion agency (IPA) of Barbados, Invest Barbados, has taken the decision to be involved in the Island Finance Forum 2021, to bring focus to the investment opportunities on this island. “We are ‘present’ at this year’s event with the aim of showcasing the investment potential that Barbados has to offer to a global audience and to remind attendees that our investment climate remains warm and welcoming.
As the official hosts of the Forum’s Networking session, we also encourage participants to explore the exciting and emerging opportunities that exist in Barbados,” explained Kaye-Anne Brathwaite, CEO of Invest Barbados. Brathwaite commended Island Innovation for the role it is playing to engage in developmental conversations and support sustainability and innovation. “Now more than ever, connectivity and collaboration is crucial to our individual and collective future – and I thank the organisers of this Forum for providing a virtual platform to thought leaders and those invested in the sustained development of our islands,” Brathwaite stated.
The Forum will be hosted by Island Innovation, whose most recent event was the Virtual Island Summit which took place last September and attracted more than 10,000 attendees. The Summit also features keynote speeches from country leaders including the Prime Ministers of Fiji and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Presidents of Guyana and the Federated States of Micronesia.
Featured speeches will be given by the Prime Ministers of Saint Lucia and Antigua & Barbuda, as well as Government Ministers from Bermuda, the UK, Timor-Leste, Greenland and Saint Lucia.
Founder and Director of Island Innovation, James Ellsmoor commented, “The Virtual Island Summit was a great success, achieving amazing geographic and sectoral diversity across both our speakers and global audience. The Island Finance Forum will have a different focus, but the overall purpose remains the same; to build digital bridges between island communities around the world and share and exchange knowledge that is most pertinent to them. We are happy to work with Invest Barbados to showcase the excellent emerging opportunities available on the island, particularly as related to Renewable Energy, the Blue Economy, FinTech and Medical Tourism.”
The Island Finance Forum will be completely free to attend and accessible to attendees from across the globe in a variety of interactive sessions and discussions. This will include several networking opportunities, sponsored by Invest Barbados, where attendees can meet and exchange ideas face to
face or in small groups. Attendees will be able to select which of the topics and sessions they actively participate in – and all sessions will be recorded and available to watch at a time that is convenient.
